Sketching

A sketch is a quick freehand drawing, which are not planned to be a finished artwork. Artists and painters usually employ sketches to map out and try several ideas on their frescoes and paintings to avoid expending too much time and money. It helps the artists to focus on their work and usually imposed on student artists in honing artistic skills. Oftentimes, pastels and pencils are used in sketching because of time constraints.

Kneaded erasers are usually used in sketching to remove rough lines or to make the lines softer for a better visual effect. White erasers can be useful too but it tends to smudge when erasing heavy shading. Leonardo da Vinci and Edgar Degas are among the famous painters that use sketches while studying their next masterpieces. Most of the paper used in sketching is similar to papers used in charcoal painting but any clean drawing paper will do.
